NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT | Belton Texas Photographer
This mama contacted me directly from my website when she was pregnant with her second girl. She wanted great newborn photos, but also photos of her family capturing this special time. She decided to go with my full newborn package which includes a combination of lifestyle newborn photography and classic baby posed portraits. I sent her a questionnaire to get a better idea of her preferences where we discovered she was a huge fan of neutrals, but also pops of pinks and blues. I sent her several pictures of the baskets with fabrics and wraps so she had an idea of what I was going to bring. We set the time for the session in the morning which would be ideal for their toddler girl, to avoid being overly tired and conflicts with nap time (I am a mom of three, so I know how that goes!).
When I arrived, I took my time and toured their lovely home. I found the best spots with natural light in their home and started taking photos of the nursery while mom finished feeding. During this time, I also showed mama what I brought specifically to our session so she could see in real life the textures and colors of the fabrics. She picked out what fabrics and baskets she liked best to be used during the posing part of our session.
We started with family lifestyle photos of big sister loving on her new baby. I captured photos of the dog as well who was super interested in his new sister. I made sure to spend some extra time making big sister feel special as well so we took some of her and mama dancing and just being close.
Mom and Dad took a break to change baby and then we moved on to the basket poses. I swaddled baby girl with the swaddle pro, which I use in all my sessions. This helps wrap baby up comfortably; mimicking the womb and making baby feel safe and secure….as well as sleepy! After being rocked and the help of some white noise, baby was fast asleep. I posed baby in different baskets and used the client’s rugs as backgrounds which were fabulous and created a unique look. All of the photos of baby in baskets and beds were taken next to a window using natural light. We ended the session with a few more family photos and a couple outside of their home. I always end my sessions with the family outside of their front door to really put a time stamp on the session to look back on and remember the time and place of this moment.
Each family is unique and the process looks different for family photos for each family. We go with the flow and follow babies lead every single time. Sometimes sessions take less than 2 hours, while others may take longer. Some babies feed quickly, others go slow. Some babies really like to be rocked, and others swaddled. Every baby and family is different. I come to you where you are and we make magic happen. Message me below if you would like me to tell your story visually.
